How do I check if my site is actually down? Print

This guide is for troubleshooting issues where your site appears to be down. While not fully comprehensive, these are the most common causes.

First, check if your site is down for everyone or just you. You can do this by using an online tool such as at http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/.

If the site is confirmed as DOWN, contact us via our support page. If the site is UP but you can't access the page, try one of the solutions:

Check your Browser

Perform a full browser refresh. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For browser specific instructions:

Mozilla Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache
Chrome: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?hl=en
Apple Safari: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204098
Microsoft IE: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17438/windows-internet-explorer-view-delete-browsing-history

Check for DNS related problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. When moving hosting to Create Hosting, the DNS records are changed to point to our network. Sometimes this can be cached by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has.

For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For Apple Mac, see the following:

https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT202516

If you can access a website at your office or from your 3G/4G network, yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs.

OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services. See the following URL for help on setting up OpenDNS:

Check that your IP isn't blocked by our network

If none of the above options work, and you still can't access your website, it could be that your IP has been temporarily blocked automatically by our firewall. This can happen if you are setting up or changing mail account settings, and the configuration settings are incorrect. Wait 15 min and then try again (double check that you have the correct configuration details). Contact Create Hosting support if you would like to confirm / check if your IP address is blocked, or if you need further assistance.
