How to Set Up Mail in Windows Mail Print

Windows Mail is an e-mail and newsgroup client included in Windows Vista, that has since been superseded by Windows Live Mail. It is the successor to Outlook Express. Before you start, make sure that you have the details below which are found on your account settings email:
Your email username: username@yourdomain.co.nz
Your email password Mail servers

  1. Start Windows Mail by double-clicking its desktop icon or by selecting it from the Start Menu. What happens next depends on whether you have configured Windows Mail previously.

    If you have not configured or started Windows Mail before
    , a Startup wizard will open automatically. Go to step #2, below.

    If you have started Outlook 2007 before
    , click the Tools menu at the top of the Outlook Window, then click Accounts. In this new window, select Add ... then select E-mail Account and click Next. Go to step #2, below.
  2. On the Your Name screen, enter your desired Display Name and click Next.
  3. On the Internet E-mail Address screen, enter your mailbox email address and click Next.
  4. The Set up e-mail servers screen appears. Select either POP3 or IMAP depending on which type of mailbox you use. If you are not sure, leave this as POP3 (default). Enter mail. (e.g. mail.yourdomain.co.nz) for Incoming mail server, and smtp. (e.g. smtp.yourdomain.co.nz) for Outgoing mail server. Tick the Outgoing server requires authentication option and click Next.
  5. The Internet Mail Logon screen appears. Enter your E-mail username, which is your mailbox email address (e.g. john@yourdomain.co.nz). Enter your Password and click Next.
  6. Click Finish on the Congratulations! screen.
  7. You will now need to set the correct port in order to use SMTP Auth for sending mail via Create Hosting servers. Do not skip this step.
  8. Click the Tools menu at the top of the Windows Mail window, then click Accounts.
  9. Select the account you just created (identified by your email address) and click Properties.
  10. Select the Advanced tab. Change the Outgoing Server (SMTP) port from 25 to 587 and click OK. Click Close to close the Internet Accounts dialogue window.

Editing your email settings
  1. Click the Tools menu at the top of the Windows Mail window, then click Accounts.
  2. Select the account you wish to edit and click Properties.
  3. Make the desired corrections on the settings screen, click Next, then click Finish.
